Inclusion at Holt Farm Junior School

At Holt Farm Junior School all staff and governors are committed to the principle of equal opportunity, and aim to encourage the development of every child, meeting their individual needs by matching them to the curriculum.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

At Holt Farm Junior School the responsibility for the SEND provision of children lies primarily with the class teachers.

Mrs Noone, has an overview of the SEND provision throughout the school and is involved in the monitoring, assessment and delivery of the SEND provision.

The Inclusion Leader reports to Mrs Richardson, the Headteacher, who also takes an active role in the SEND provision within Holt Farm Junior School.

Support for Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs

At Holt Farm Junior School we are proud of the fact that our children feel that they can talk to any of the adults in school. In addition to this, members of the Inclusion Team make themselves available for ‘chats’ or ‘check ins’ with then children at different points throughout the school day.

All pupils are supported through the school’s robust pastoral system but sometimes this is not enough to address specific social and emotional needs.

If there are concerns with a pupil’s social or emotional well-being, then initially we will complete a range of assessments that will then determine the direction of any intervention. This intervention may include small group social skills or 1-1 social skills/emotional support lead by a member of our Inclusion Team.

Young Carers

Young Carers is an area that has become more prominent in recent years within education.

While there are no exact figures on the number of young carers nationally, some data does exist that give us an idea of the extent of the issue. Findings from research (Walker, 1996) suggest that up to 51,000 children in Britain may be providing substantial and regular care to another family member.

Pupil Premium

According to the government, evidence shows that children from disadvantaged backgrounds generally face extra challenges in reaching their potential at school and often do not perform as well as their peers. The pupil premium grant is designed to allow schools to help disadvantaged pupils by improving their progress and the exam results they achieve.

Greater Depth and Secure Learners (GDS)

At Holt Farm Junior School we challenge all learners, this includes those who are considered to be working at a greater depth. Through ongoing assessment and intervention targeted to extend the learning of children, we aim to make sure those who have been identified as having the ability to achieve higher than their age expected expectations, achieving their full potential.
